Watauga Lake is located in Carter County, TN. It was created in 1948 by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). It is the highest lake on the TVA system at around 1959 ft above sea level. It was built on top of the former location of the town of Butler, TN. Bulter was abandoned and relocated to higher ground on the Northern side of Watauga Lake.
